I began my training in 2006 at Euphoria Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, then moved to Portland, Oregon a few years later in 2010 and bought Akemi Salon in 2016. My favorite part of doing hair, is not only the transformation of the hair itself but the transformation of my clients’ attitude and view of themselves. I love to help my clients remember how beautiful they are, with something as simple as a fresh new cut or maybe color, or a whole new look all together. It’s easy to get lost in the stresses of the world and forget about ourselves. So I'm happy to bring the attention back to you. Throughout my career, I’ve constantly continued my education and experiences, working with several other studios, stylist, educators. And then finally choosing to make Akemi Salon my business was the best decision I ever made. I am proud to only use products that are cruelty free and that are healthy for the planet, people and animals. These products would include: Davines, Keune, Pravana, Loma, Kevin Murphy. Much like the beauty industry itself, I am always evolving and if you wish to see my reviews or current photos of my work, please feel free to visit my Instagram @hair_by_JaimeJean, Facebook @hairbyjaimejean Or your welcome to call me anytime @ 503-737-5120 and I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.

A New Yorker by birth, it took me 34 years of living all over the east coast to realize that I'm really a West Coaster! I relocated to Portland in 2010 and I've never been happier! I spend my free time with my husband, 2 kids, 2 cats, and giant horse dog. Likes: Costuming, crafting, squirrels. Dislikes: Tomatoes, chronic negativity. I love teaching, helping people, and making them feel good about themselves! I have been licensed since 2003, but I've been styling hair for as long as I can remember (I got my first real mannequin head at 6 years old!) I've been enjoying honing my skills and learning new techniques over the years...The best stylists are ones who never stop growing! I specialize in unicorn hair/mermaid hair, but I am equally skilled in more classic and refined cuts and color as well. Other favorites include hair re-texurizing (perms/straightening), updos/special event styling, hair extensions and additions (faux dreads etc), and transitional haircuts (aka growing out your hair). Past certifications include Great Lengths Hair Extensions and BioIonic Thermal Straightening. Please check out some of my more recent work at:http:www.facebook.com/HairBySquirrel.
I look forward to getting to know you soon!

- Chai Josie -
Chai (pronounced Shay) Josie has been doing hair for twenty years. Received her licenses in Cosmetology, Esthetics, Barbering, and business management training in Salt Lake City, UT. Worked there for eight years and moved to Portland twelve and a half years ago and still in love with this quirky town!
Her experience over the years includes working in multiple salons, fashion shows, hair shows, multiple coloring techniques, precision cuts, barbering, special occasion up-do styles, funky, straight, fine thin, very thick, color correction, platinum bombshells, extensions, and last but not least, mostly known for her curly hair skills.
About curly techniques; Absolutely will not use thinning shears and the razor in which causes frizzing. Techniques she uses are through Deva Curl (Curly Girl book) and own experiences with her own curls, and learning from others. I love the challenge of working with the most unruly, thick, curliest of hair! You may also look up reviews of me on www.naturallycurly.com.
Products use and promote are silicone, sulfate, paraben, and cruelty free. I carry Deva Curl, Beautiful Curls, Loma. Color line I use mostly is Goldwell.
Services are always guaranteed for up to 2 weeks. She treats her clients with patience, compassion, love and careful listening. If you have any more questions please call her directly at: (503)688-3137 email: email@example.com
I will be looking forward to meeting you! Xoxo Chai
My hair career all started in the little state of Maine! I wanted a change and decided to bring my hair game to the west coast. What better place to land other than Portland, OR? Being a hairstylist was the career path I've always wanted to take. I enjoy getting to know people, but most importantly, I love seeing that happy glow a person can get when they love their hair. Having a thorough consultation with my clients is one of my first priorities. We will be on the same page before anything happens to your hair. I also enjoy educating people on how to style/take care of their new look because sharing is caring! The at home care is just as important, if not, more important to keep the hair and color shiny, healthy, and long lasting. Working with cruelty free products is also a definite plus for me. I am proud to say that they are harmless to the animals that we share this planet with and healthy for the environment! I believe that continuing education is the best thing a hairstylist can do for themselves. It is something that keeps this industry so new and exciting all the time, all while having so much growth. I highly enjoy learning new techniques and tricks to achieve different looks or make things fun. Change is something I am always up for! Whether it be a small pop of color, shorter haircut, or just all together something new. I am skilled with balayage techniques and love to work with fashion tones. While I love the artistic freedom of freehand painting, I am also great with foils and other more precise techniques.
